Peter Knows About Denying

Peter preaches in Acts chapter 3, beginning at verse 13;

"The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and killed the Prince of Life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses."

Peter here begins his speech with one of the names of the Triune God; the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Can we see how this name associated with these three patriarchs fits symbolically with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Peter, who denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed, here identifies with this crowd who denied Jesus when He was on trial, and asked for a murderer to be released. Then, of course, we know that Jesus died and the murderer was released. This provides for us a small picture of what Jesus has done for all those who call on Him. Jesus dies, and we are freed.

Peter, having been forgiven for denying Jesus, has now moved on to be a powerful witness for Jesus Christ, "whom God raised from the dead" and through Whom, through faith in Him, here are we told of a lame beggar who walks, and leaps, and praises God. Again a small picture of all those who believe in Jesus; who once were blind and now they see; who once were lame and now they walk, who once were dead and now they live.
