Herod; A Typical King

Earthly kings typically make war against God and against His people. Take Herod for example in Acts 12:1, 2;

"About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword, and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also."

There are many references too numerous to mention, but here are four.

Exodus 1:15;

"Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was Puah, 'When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birth-stool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live."

Psalm 2:2,3;

"The kings of the earth set themselves,

And the rulers take counsel together,

Against the Lord and against His anointed, saying,

'Let us burst their bonds apart

And cast away their cords from us."

Matthew 2:16;

"Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old and under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men."

And Revelation 19:11, 13, 14, 19;

"Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

"He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

"And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

"And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against Him who was sitting on the horse and against His army."

Meditate on these things. As it says in the first part of Revelation, 1:3;

"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near."
